...of the many folks I still hear from who believe online gameplay is anti-social and less mentally stimulating than reading. They did such a great job showcasing the feeling of teamwork, adventure and awe-inspiring environments... might even change a few minds...I love this EVE Online gameplay video... I admit, it gave me chills. https://t.co/bdhxHWLsFf
@deseraestage as a philly native I miss pizelles :)@StevenM_Johnson we are about 50/50 on those! :)@znmeb read the whole article?-illness or disability is NOT necessarily a chronic/lifelong condition, but rather can be turned off by environmental changes like elevationWhy I think that Utah/Rocky Mountain suicide/ADD/depression epidemic research is interesting... it adds weight to the idea that mental --@kellymcgonigal I was thinking of you when I read Ed's tweet because you are both such passionated and dedicated explainers of science!@StevenM_Johnson add a show to the list from the 80s, 90s, and 00s that you really like and we'll test this theory!! :)@jarrettwold @reesefish ... which is really interesting! some get a high, some get depressed. Me - I need sea level and heat and sunshine :)@jarrettwold @reesefish the research in that article suggests that different people are affected for better or for worse by same weather...FASCINATING. persuasive. There's a Suicide Epidemic in Utah—And One Neuroscientist Thinks He Knows Why by @reesefish http://t.co/iYZXPz7QG4@edyong209 when one of the best science writers in history says something like that it makes the rest of us writers feel better :)YAY! I'm going to opening night of Kinky Boots in San Francisco! I'm so happy! Anyone else seeing this in SF? @shnsf https://t.co/6VMmHJOjot@mb06bps good thinking:)@avantgame The game that can give you 10 extra years of life. @shnsf I loved my years working front of house in NYC!!!@CasualEffects that's really impressive! :)@avantgame We quit and created JCGT http://t.co/KuDOFEaCCh when our publisher tried this...more academics should make their own journals!
Retweeted by Jane McGonigal@Critique_Create :) i will summarize on my website!@dereklaffan @avantgame I think that is what she is talking about. Most reputable open access journals charge 2500+ bucks to publish in.
Retweeted by Jane McGonigalTwine, the Video-Game Technology for All http://t.co/te6RIebsLl@Wikisteff right another travesty... and we really got GREAT feedback, went through two rounds and it really helped with analysis.@wilbanks something hygglig would be perfect for the miserable weather.... a hot toddy maybe :)@wilbanks cocktail --- good idea :)(for those asking why we didn't just do a full open access publication)We published with that particular journal primarily to avail ourselves of the most rigorous and helpful peer review process possible...@avantgame sadly, $3K is on low end of “hybrid” open access author charges. change is coming, but it’s slow. (also: congrats on the paper!)
Retweeted by Jane McGonigalit's crazy to imagine that academic researchers can afford to write $3000 checks to let the public see their work. Very frustrating, our article available to the public online, we have to pay them $3000. Otherwise, only academic institutions with subscription can access.in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. (the paper is on the SuperBetter randomized controlled trial at Penn) If we want the journal to makeI'm sure many of you know this, but just to underscore the insanity of scientific publishing... I am co-author on a recently accepted paper,@mjandersen yes! so many games! I hear about one almost every week :)@avantgame I'm still in shock: Two groups of ASU kids just pointed at each other, shouted 'YOU'RE GORGEOUS!', panicked, and then scattered.

@aniline @MediatedReality smart!@rajatsuri @rfradin well it's a strike. they drivers have protest signs.Taxi strike at SFO is actually crazy. SFO on ramp is completely stopped traffic.

Retweeted by Jane McGonigal@rajatsuri @rfradin are you joking? We just got out of SFO... Really chaotic and dangerous for pedestrians and drivers right now.@casinclair we were terminal 3. Just got out. Omg.@mattcutts thank you!!! And yay now we follow each other :)Cabs at @flySFO striking because of @Uber. Now organizers can't stop them and cops stepping in. http://t.co/LEf6PhYoTL
Retweeted by Jane McGonigal@casinclair @flySFO @Uber are you here right now too? Trying to get home after 4 weeks on the road augh.@avantgame @marcslove just got out of SFO. It was madhouse, very unsafe for drivers and especially pedestrians.
Retweeted by Jane McGonigal@gretared @mat the driving is dangerous@Ari0ck yeah but that's not what they're protesting. We are on an SFO shuttle now trying to get out. the shuttle drivers are all talking via radio "be very careful" "it's dangerous out there"I am all for strikes but my experience with SF taxis is soooooo bad they don't have a lot of sympathy from me. Also I want to go home :(Nightmare at #SFO... taxi strike against Lyft, Uber has blocked all shuttles and other cars from getting in and out of terminals.Today was a good day for compassion reading online.
